Week 8 Football Preview

With three weeks left in the regular season, area football teams hit a critical stretch. Six days after earning its first win, Quinton, the only area squad at home this week, hopes to take another step towards playoff contention tonight in its Senior Night game against another one-win team, Pocola. Porum will saddle up on Friday for a must-win contest against a foe that also hopes to rediscover its playoff hope following two losses to start district play. Keota can take sole control of the District B-8 lead with a win and Cave Springs loss tonight. Stigler is off this week.

Here's a look at the Week 8 schedule.

Keota (4-3, 2-0 District B-8) at Gans (2-5, 1-1 District B-8) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Keota 48, Gans 0 (Oct. 21, 2016)

Points scored-allowed: Keota: 202-150; Gans: 136-256.

Notes: Keota has won five straight games against Gans, all by at least 40 points. Keota's 22-6 win against Arkoma on Friday was its third game with at least three sacks. Rylan Mooneyhan had four of the Lions' five sacks against Arkoma. Gans is 0-3 at home. Keota is 2-2 on the road.

Quinton (1-6, 1-3 District A-8) vs. Pocola (1-6, 0-4 District A-8) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Pocola 37, Quinton 31 (Oct. 20, 2016)

Points scored-allowed: Quinton: 95-246; Pocola: 104-266.

Notes: Quinton scored a season-high 28 points in edging Warner on Oct. 13. The Savages had three players (Dylan Sustaire, Clay Lemons and Brancen Gragg) with more than 10 tackles. Before last year, Quinton had won four straight games against Pocola. The Indians have lost five straight games since beating Poteau JV on Sept. 8.

Porum (2-4, 0-2 District B-8) at Watts (3-4, 0-2 District B-8) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Watts 28, Porum 12 (Oct. 20, 2016)

Points scored-allowed: Porum: 156-258; Watts: 138-174.

Notes: Porum has scored more than 35 points three times, and Watts has surpassed that mark twice.
