Stigler's Brooks seeks his second record, more Week 3 preview

Stigler running back Garret Brooks is closing in on the program's career rushing yards record. Meanwhile, Quinton plays its homecoming game following a 5:30 p.m. homecoming ceremony. Below is a look at the Week 3 matchups.

Stigler (3-0) vs. Spiro (0-2) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Stigler 68, Spiro 14 (Sept. 16, 2016)

Notes: Garret Brooks is 155 yards away from Stigler's career rushing record held by Cade Shearwood (4,349). Brooks has run for more than 180 yards in his last eight games. He had 268 yards on Sept. 8 in the 39-24 win against Sallisaw. Stigler is averaging 45 points per game. Spiro has scored 41 points and allowed 80 through two games. With Garon Mayhall out with a broken leg, Nano Shaffer is the Panthers' next leading receiver with eight catches and for 154 yards. Stigler coach Chris Risenhoover said he is looking for sophomore wideout Jaxon Calhoun to take a big step forward, saying Calhoun showed his vast talent in 7-on-7s. Calhoun made a leaping grab for a 36-yard completion in the first quarter against Sallisaw, setting up Stigler's first touchdown.

Quinton (0-2) vs. Konawa (1-1) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Konawa 28, Quinton 6 (Sept. 16, 2016)

Notes: Haven Barnes ran for 83 yards and a touchdown while Garrett Lemons rushed for 62 yards and a score in the 36-12 loss at Wilburton on Sept. 8. Briar Needham has 27 tackles through two games. Konawa broke even through two games, scoring 36 points while alllowing the same number. Quinton has scored 24 and allowed 78.

Keota (1-1) at Webbers Falls (0-2) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Keota 56, Webbers Falls 8 (Sept. 16, 2016)

Notes: Keota will likely return to a characteristic run-pass ratio, keeping the ball on the ground the vast majority of the time after Chaz Williams, who has been starting in place of the injured Cash Long, threw 26 times -- compared with the team's 31 rushing attempts -- in the 58-20 loss at Weleetka on Sept. 8. Webbers Falls has struggled with a thin roster, scoring 26 points against 118 allowed through two games.

Porum (1-0) at Weleetka (1-1) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Weleetka 46, Porum 0 (Sept. 16, 2016)

Notes: Porum's Colt McMellon had more than 300 total yards in the Panthers' opener two weeks ago. Weleetka dumped 58 points on Keota on Sept. 8 after managing only eight in the opener against Davenport.
