Stigler leaves the Miners reeling

The Stigler Panthers played and defeated the Hartshorne Miners on Thursday, Feb. 1, with the final score reading 62-56.

The Panthers scored 13 points to Hartshorne’s 8 in the first quarter, and 12 points to the Miners 8 in the second. The score at half-time was 25-19. After the half, the Panthers came out with more of the ferocity they had shown in the first half, scoring a total of 12 points in the third quarter to the Miners 15 and an additional 26 points in the fourth quarter to Hartshorne’s 12, bringing the final scoring 62-56 for a Panthers win.

Jordan Dorris is the top scorer of this game with a total of 17 points. Caleb Humphries is the second top scorer of this game with 10 points.

Coach Wesley Cloud stated, “I think we took positive steps, we’ve been struggling a little bit. We’ve been trying to find a way to close out and win games. We made positive steps towards fixing that. The team hasn’t lost a game since the last time we beat them, which was in January. They’ve been on the road, and we’re fortunate enough to put that on a stall. I feel like we turned it around a little bit. Hopefully, we continue on this week and put a win streak together and pop off the next two ahead of us.”

The Stigler Panthers are currently ranked 9-8, and 6-4 in district. The Panthers will play Heavener on Feb. 8 at 8 p.m.
