Stigler hosts homecoming, more Week 5 preview

Stigler hosts its football homecoming today while working to keep its unbeaten start going in the district opener. The homecoming ceremony starts at 6:10 p.m. Porum and Keota are on the road for their last non-district games. Meanwhile, Quinton will have a quiet Friday night after having to cancel its home game against Talihina since the Savages do not have enough healthy players. Here's a look at the slate for Week 5.

Stigler (5-0) vs. Roland (1-3) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Stigler 22, Roland 14 (Sept. 30, 2016)

Points scored-allowed: Stigler: 226-94; Roland:  86-147.

Notes: Stigler is one of three 5-0 teams in Class 3A and looking to match their best start under coach Chris Risenhoover, which was when they opened 6-0 in 2010. The Panthers have won eight straight homecoming games. Stigler is second in Class 3A with 45.2 points per game. Stigler running back Garret Brooks has run for 1,194 yards this season, leading the state. Stigler quarterback Bryce Turrentine has thrown for 900 yards and completed 63.6 percent of his passes. Roland quarterback Elijah Dalton has thrown for 726 yards and completed 61 percent of his passes. Dalton completed all 11 passes, but was sacked eight times in the Rangers' 38-14 loss to Keys on Sept. 22.

Keota (2-2) at Wetumka (4-0) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Wetumka 18, Keota 16 (Nov. 17, 2016)

Points scored-allowed: Keota: 134-94; Wetumka: 196-48.

Notes: Keota has won three of the last five meetings against Wetumka. The Lions were unable to play a full game last week since their Sept. 22 home game against Depew was cut short when a blown transformer at the stadium cut out the lights. Wetumka is seventh in Class B with 49.2 points per game. Logan Bellinger leads Wetumka with 420 rushing yards.

Porum (1-2) at South Coffeyville (1-3) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Porum 36, South Coffeyville 34 (Sept. 30, 2016)

Points scored-allowed: Porum: 82-124; South Coffeyville: 73-152.

Notes: This is the second time Porum and South Coffeyville have met in football. Last year, the Panthers rallied from a double-digit deficit to beat the Lions.
