Quinton hosts homecoming vs. Savanna for third test in four days, more area hoops

Quinton's basketball teams must come back for another emotional matchup after playing in the Tushka AmeriState Invitational final, with the girls team knocking off Tushka by double digits and the boys falling short in overtime against the host Tigers. With the girls surging and the boys turning their season around, both hope for big homecoming wins against Savanna. The homecoming ceremony is at 5:30 p.m. Below are all of tonight's matchups.

Quinton boys (4-7) vs. Savanna (7-3) 6:30 p.m.

Last game: Tushka 46, Quinton 44 (OT); LeFlore 46, Savanna 44.

Last meeting: Savanna 51, Quinton 41 (Jan. 12, 2016)

Notes: Both Quinton and Savanna are coming off close losses to ranked opponents. Quinton had won three straight games before losing to Tushka.

Quinton girls (11-1, ranked 14th in Class 2A) vs. Savanna (8-2, ranked 16th in Class 2A) 8 p.m.

Last game: Quinton 51, Tushka 38; Savanna 58, Webbers Falls 34.

Last meeting: Savanna 41, Quinton 39 (Feb. 27, 2016)

Notes: Quinton and Savanna split their two games last season, with Quinton winning an important midseason contest to climb the rankings and the Bulldogs taking a regional title against the Savages. Quinton has won 10 straight games following its second tournament championship of the season. Savanna has won five of the last six games.

Stigler vs. Hartshorne

Panthers girls (8-2, ranked 15th in Class 3A) vs. Miners (6-6) 6:30 p.m.

Last game: Muldrow 57, Stigler 43; Stonewall 46, Hartshorne 44.

Last meeting: Stigler 62, Hartshorne 45 (Feb. 2, 2016)

Notes: Stigler has beaten Hartshorne eight times through the past three seasons. Stigler comes off a second place finish in the Sequoyah County Classic while Hartshorne lost the Tushka tourney third place game.

Panthers boys (1-8) vs. Hartshorne (8-4) 8 p.m.

Last game: Sallisaw 66, Stigler 51; Hartshorne 73, Antlers 40.

Last meeting: Hartshorne 59, Stigler 48 (Feb. 2, 2016)

Notes: Stigler won two of three games against Hartshorne last season.

Keota at McCurtain

Lions girls (4-5) at Bulldogs (3-10) 6:30 p.m.

Last game: Cameron 60, Keota 37; McCurtain 47, Keota 43.

Last meeting: Keota 51, McCurtain 34 (Jan. 18, 2016)

Notes: This is the second game for Keota coach Greg Grimmett, who took over as head basketball coach after David Sanders resigned last week. Keota won both games against McCurtain last season.

LIons boys (2-8) at Bulldogs (7-8) 8 p.m.

Last game: Cameron 62, Keota 56 (OT); McCurtain 69, Bokoshe 66 (OT).

Last meeting: Keota 65, McCurtain 59 (Jan. 11, 2016)

Notes: McCurtain has won three straight games and has a chance to reach .500 before a pivotal tournament in Porum next week. Keota hopes to end a three-game losing streak. McCurtain has scored 61.7 points per game while Keota has averaged 44.4 per game.

Kinta at Cameron

Kinta girls (5-8) at Yellow Jackets (13-4) 6:30 p.m.

Last game: Kinta 43, Achille 40; Cameron 60, Keota 37.

Notes: Kinta claimed third place in the Dee Foster Invitational on Monday, Jan. 9, for its most successful tournament finish this season.

Eagles boys (13-2) at Yellow Jackets (6-9) 8 p.m.

Last game: Kinta 64, Pittsburg 32; Cameron 62, Keota 56 (OT).

Last meeting: Kinta 67, Cameron 31 (Jan. 12, 2016)

Notes: Kinta took its first tourney title in Pittsburg on Monday, Jan. 9, after taking two second-place finishes.

Porum at Gans

Panthers girls (9-1) at Gans (6-6) 6:30 p.m.

Last game: Porum 70, Oaks Mission 42; Sallisaw Central 70, Gans 54.

Last meeting: Porum 69, Gans 23 (Nov. 18, 2016)

Notes: Porum has won eight straight games. The Panthers have won seven straight games against the Grizzlies since 2013-14.
