Kinta, Porum to host basketball districts

Kinta and Porum received home basketball district tournaments as the OSSAA announced Class A and B district assignments were announced on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Kinta (16-2 boys, 6-11 girls) will host Whitesboro for Class B's Area IV District 5, which are scheduled to take place between Feb. 10 and 12 for Class A and B (playoff schedules will be set after Jan. 23 district meetings). Both Whitesboro's boys and girls teams are 8-11. Whitesboro's boys team has won three of its last four games after struggling with injuries for the much of the season. On Jan. 15, Kinta's boys, which are ranked No. 1 in Class B, beat Whitesboro 53-21 and Kinta's girls lost 42-23 in their first game after Cianna Titsworth's partial ACL tear. Kinta will go to Henryetta for regionals and stay close to home for the area playoffs by playing at Quinton.

Porum (9-6 boys, 11-3 girls) host Cave Springs and Gans for Class A's Area II District 5. Porum's boys beat Gans (5-8) on Jan. 10, 62-53. Porum's girls, which are ranked 20th in Class A, won 53-30 at Gans. Both Panthers teams have beaten the Grizzlies twice this season. Cave Springs' boys are 4-12 and their girls team is 5-11 with a 59-20 loss to Porum in the first round of the Porum Armstrong Bank Tournament. Porum will host the first round of regionals before going to Okemah. If the Panthers reach the area playoffs, they would go to Stroud.

McCurtain (9-9 boys, 4-11 girls) go to Moyers, along with Eagletown (0-9 boys, 0-9 girls) for Class B's Area IV District 6. Moyers' boys team (11-5) is ranked 17th and has won two games against ranked opponents. Moyers' girls are 9-9. Like Kinta, McCurtain goes to Henryetta for regionals. The Henryetta regional has Moyers as a sub-site. Also, like Kinta, McCurtain would go to Quinton if it reaches the area playoffs.

Keota (3-12 boys, 5-9 girls) go to Arkoma, along with Cameron (7-13 boys, 15-6 girls) for Class A's Area II District 7. Arkoma's boys team is 10-6 and its girls team is 2-10, having lost five straight games. If Keota gets out of districts, it would go be in the Okemah regional with Porum.
