King of the River Returns to Whitefield

For the second time this year, ATV riders revved up their engines for tournament racing action as a great number converged at the Whitefield beach on the shore of the Canadian River for the King of the River event on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Organizer Jake Pridemore said that people traveled from various parts of Oklahoma, as well as Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Nebraska, Oregon and Washington. Thirty-eight people raced in the main event, while many more were in attendance.

Many camped overnight at the beach in preparation for the race, which attracted sponsors and included a larger payout than the initial King of the River tournament, which was held in Whitefield on April 16. Scott Smith of Cedar Hill, Mo., won the tournament, garnering a $3,000 prize.
