Keota homecoming game, more Week 6 preview

Keota hosts Porum in what is expected to be a contentious homecoming showdown. The homecoming parade starts at 4:30 p.m. with the ceremony following at 5 p.m. Meanwhile, Stigler heads to Idabel to face a district title challenger.

Stigler (6-0) at Idabel (2-3) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Stigler 50, Idabel 29 (Oct. 7, 2016)

Points scored-allowed: Stigler: 253-106; Idabel: 146-118.

Notes: Idabel burst through the beginning of its district slate by picking off Muldrow quarterback Braden Gleason three times in shutting down one of the District 8 title contenders. Whereas Muldrow relied on its passing game, the Panthers are keyed into its ground attack. Stigler coach Chris Risenhoover has focused on keeping the ball in running back Garret Brooks' hands, even as the leading rusher in Oklahoma (with 1,467 yards) experiences an ankle injury. Brooks ran the ball 27 times while Bryce Turrentine threw it nine times. The ratio will likely be similar as Risenhoover looks to contend with Idabel's speed. Stigler has matched its best start under Risenhoover (also started 6-0 in 2010). The Panthers are fifth in Class 3A with 42.2 points per game.

Keota (2-3 vs. Porum (2-2) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Keota 52, Porum 6 (Oct. 7, 2016)

Points scored-allowed: Keota: 134-144; Porum: 118-152.

Notes: Keota has won six straight meetings, but Porum has more experience this year. The teams have the same records as they did last year before playing each other, but this time only Porum is coming off a win. Chaz Williams will start again at quarterback for Keota with Cash Long still yet to debut due to a preseason injury.

Quinton (0-5) at Savanna (4-1) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Savanna 22, Quinton 20 (Oct. 7, 2016)

Points scored-allowed: Quinton: 43-186 ; Savanna: 120-70

Notes: Quinton hopes to bounce back after taking a forfeit loss last week after canceling its game against Talihina. Savanna won its first four games before losing 37-28 on Sept. 29 to Sallisaw Central. Briar Needham leads Quinton in tackles. Blake Cathey had two touchdowns for Savanna against Sallisaw Central.
