Green Valley Conference girls second round, more area hoops

With Keota having submitted a nice first win and McCurtain firing away from long range, two area girls basketball teams are fighting their way through the Green Valley Conference Tournament in McCurtain. Also, Stigler heads to Wilburton for tourney play and Kinta's boys have a big semifinal matchup in the First National Bank Classic in McAlester. Here's a look at the area slate.

Green Valley Conference Tournament

Keota girls (1-2) vs. Cameron (5-2) 6:30 p.m.

Last meeting: Cameron 67, Keota 31 (Feb. 11, 2017)

Notes: Keota lost both games against Cameron last season. Keota made the Green Valley Conference Tournament championship last year, but must stop a Yellowjackets squad that averages 55.9 points per game.

McCurtain (7-4) vs. Panama (2-3) 8 p.m.

Last meeting: Panama 52, McCurtain 31 (Feb. 7, 2017)

Notes: McCurtain lost both games against Panama by double digits, but has scored more consistently than the Razorbacks this year. The Bulldogs are scoring 51.6 points per game, compared with 40.8 per game by Panama.

Wilburton Tournament

Stigler girls (1-2) vs. Wilburton JV 10 a.m.

Notes: The Panthers are working to develop underclassmen after point guard Cali Parker suffered a knee injury in the Nov. 28 opener against Pocola and post player Sadie Quick aggravated her left knee on Dec. 7 against Talihina. Savannah Seymour saw time in the post while Ralee Parker and Destiny Warren took turns setting up the offense against the Tigers.

Stigler boys (2-1) vs. Eufaula (0-1) 8:30 p.m.

Last meeting: Stigler 55, Eufaula 37 (Feb. 19, 2016)

Notes: Stigler has won two of its last three games against Eufaula. Stigler averages 61 points per game.

First National Bank Classic

Kinta boys (6-3, ranked 18th in Class B) vs. Savanna (4-0) 5:20 p.m.

Last meeting: Kinta 69, Savanna 58 (Dec. 15, 2016)

Notes: Kinta has won four straight games. The Eagles average 55.8 points per game, compared with 60.5 per game by Savanna.

Choctaw Nation Invitational

Quinton girls (4-2) vs. Rattan (5-6) 7 p.m.

Last meeting: Quinton 28, Rattan 24 (Dec. 9, 2017)

Notes: The Savages came back to beat Rattan on Saturday in the Quinton Farmers State Bank Hardwood Classic third place game. Rattan averages 36.5 points per game while Quinton allows 37.8 per game.

Quinton boys (3-3) vs. Rattan (11-0, ranked fifth in Class A) 8:20 p.m.

Notes: Rattan had scored at least 55 points in its first 10 games before squeezing past Caddo 49-44 in the Quinton FSB Classic championship game on Saturday. Quinton is averaging 55.8 points per game.
