Willis ‘Pete’ Fowler

Willis A. “Pete” Fowler, 82, of McCurtain passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, at the Haskell County Community Hospital in Stigler.

He was born May 27, 1936, in Stigler to George and Bessie (Reavis) Fowler.

Pete attended Rose Hill Elementary School in Kinta and high school in Albuquerque, N.M. He graduated from Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee. He earned a living for his family as an electrician, a cattle rancher and he was a school bus driver for Stigler Public Schools for 14 years. He often used his skills to help his neighbors and his church. He was a devout Christian. He led the men’s Bible study class at Lequire Baptist Church for many years.

Pete is survived by his three sons, Grey Kendall Fowler of Eufaula, Cody Reece Fowler of McCurtain and Kent Wesley Fowler of McCurtain; eight grandchildren, Craig and wife, Allison, Emilee, Jamie, Spencer, Peyton, Tye, Levi and Jacob Fowler; a great-grandson, Elijah Fowler; several nieces and nephews; his sister, June Fowler Erwin of Rose Hill and his brother, Jerry Fowler of Quinton.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bessie Fowler and two sisters, Joyce Robertson and Fern Bailes.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, at R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Willard Francis officiating. Pallbearers included his sons and grandsons, Craig Fowler, Spencer Fowler, Kent Fowler, Tye Fowler, Grey Fowler and Cody Fowler. Honorary pallbearers were the men’s Bible study class of Lequire Baptist Church.

Burial followed at Antioch Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
