Virginia Ross

Virginia Elizabeth Ross was born Oct. 10, 1926, in Stigler to Lewis Jackson Gartrell and Lillian Almanda Reid Gartrell and passed away June 27, 2018, at Haskell County Nursing Center in Stigler.
She was reared in Stigler by her mother Lillian and husband, Clyde Amos, who became Virginia’s beloved step-dad and who she considered her father for the rest of her life.
Virginia married William (Bill) Ross on July 3, 1943, and they made their home south of Keota in the Iron Bridge Community, where they ran their farm and raised not only their nine children, but many more that considered her Mom.
More than anything, Virginia loved working on her farm, in her garden and raising her children. She loved people coming out to visit on Ross Hill and everyone was always welcome in her home.
Virginia is survived by six sons, Charles Ross of Keota, William Jr. of Keota, Henry Ross of Keota, Kenneth Ross and wife, Gayle, of Broken Arrow, George Ross and wife, Leona, of Stigler, Ike Ross and wife, Sandy, of Poteau; two daughters; Illa Davenport of Fort Smith, Ark., Judy Christenberry and husband, Donnie, of West Union, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; a brother, Carl Amos; a son, Garry Ross; daughters-in-law, Jane Ross and Margaret Ross; son-in-law, Dale Davenport; and a “son of the heart,” Bobby Ross.
Graveside memorial services will be held Sunday, July 8, 2018, at 3 p.m. at the Garland Cemetery with the Rev. Duke Bennett officiating.
Cremation services are under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Stigler.
