Virgil Rutherford

Virgil Augustus Rutherford, Jr., 61, of Stigler, passed away at his residence Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021. He was born Sept. 15, 1959, in Muskogee, Okla., the son of Virgil A. and Eva Jean (Seabolt) Rutherford.

Virgil was a 1977 graduate of Muskogee High School and on Dec. 31, 1993, married Sandie Carrillo of Greeley, Colo. Virgil worked as an independent flooring contractor for over 40 years and was a perfectionist, taking great pride in his work. Virgil’s passion for the Lord made him instrumental in leading others to Christ. Virgil was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast, who owned nearly 40 bikes in his lifetime. Some of the titles Virgil wore proudly were devoted husband, father, brother, son, uncle, nephew, cousin, Patriot and friend.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Eva Jean Rutherford of Muskogee, his maternal grandparents, Oklahoma and Willie Maye (Long) Seabolt and his paternal grandparents, Arvol “AA” and Ida (Mann) Rutherford.  

He is survived by his wife, Sandie Rutherford, of the home; two children, Tres Rutherford of the home and Jonnie Rea and husband, Reo, of Muskogee; one sister, Angela Stevens and husband Rick of Muskogee; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Ida Carrillo of Greeley, Colo.; brothers/sisters-in-law; Adam and Cindy Carrillo of Denver, Colo., Myke and Dave Naranjo of Greeley, Colo. and John and Alicia Carrillo of Denver, Colo.; as well as numerous nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, 2021, at The Cross Church International in Muskogee with Pastor Rick Stevens officiating.
