Velva June Hollie Hunsucker

Velva June Hollie was born in Hoyt on May 31, 1932, to Lester and Clara Hollie. While attending Stigler High School, she was a majorette and she graduated in 1950. She married Donald James Hunsucker on Oct. 29, 1952, enjoying 44 years of marriage. Junie was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandma and great-grandma.

Junie loved being with her family. She was a very hospitable and friendly woman who loved to cook for everyone. Everyone loved her fried chicken, deviled eggs, cole slaw, homemade apple cake and popcorn. She was a beautiful crafter – crocheting many, many afghans, baby blankets and table doilies, embroidery, making home accessories and sewing clothes for her children when they were young. She played piano and sang and loved to spend time outside gardening.

She worked at Sacramento Savings and Loan for over 25 years and was First Vice President. She was a member of Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church in Fair Oaks, Calif., where she was a member of the Women’s Fellowship and Outreach Committee and Seniors on the Go. She made crafts and worked in the kitchen to help raise funds for the missionaries.

Junie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her three children, Marilyn Clark (Jamie) of Federal Way, Wash., Les Hunsucker of Sacramento, Calif. and Jennifer Fears (Bobby) of Galt, Calif.; six grandchildren, Jessica Clark, Austin Clark (Laura), Christopher Grubbs, Julie Young (Jason), Samantha Hunsucker and Katie Hunsucker; four great-grandchildren, Christian Grubbs, Kaylee, Audrey and Samuel Young, Kathie Nelson (mother of Katie Hunsucker); nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, 2019, at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church in Fair Oaks, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association, heart.org, would be appreciated.
