Velma Ross

On June 15, 2021, Velma Norma Ross went to be with her Lord and Savior. She was a great lady.

Everyone who knew her will miss her very much.

She was a member of Harvest Time Assembly of God in Sherman, Texas. Velma had a long eventful life. She was 94 years old.

Mrs Ross was born Velma Norma Hayes in Lequire, Okla. to Isaac (Ike) and Dora Hayes on Feb. 12, 1927. She was the sixth of seven children. Velma lived in Amarillo from 1945-2003 and was a long time member of the San Jacinto Assembly of God. She worked as the division manager of the cosmetic department at Sears and moved to Sherman following the death of her husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence Eugene Ross; brothers, Columbus Hayes, Monroe Hayes and Lawrence Hayes; sisters, Davie Cooper, Patricia Ann Dodson and Irene Monks. 

She is survived by her son, William Lynn Culpepper and daughter-in-law Samantha Walker and stepgranddaughters, Catherine Marie Lowe and Teresa Christine Haywood.

Celebration of Velma’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the Harvest Time Church in Sherman with Pastor Nathan Cain officiating. Interment next to her husband, Gene Ross, will be held at a later date at the Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.

The family would like to thank ALL the staff of Visionary Hospice but especially Elizabeth, Brittany and Jennifer.
