Sherman “Tom Boy” Stockton, 82, of Quinton passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020, at his home. He was born Oct. 5, 1937, in Quinton, to Idus P. and Dale C. (Clark) Stockton. Tom grew up at Savanna and Quinton where he was educated. He married Irene Monks on June 5, 1968, in Stigler. They made their home in Quinton. He began a career with the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester for 19 years. Tom loved playing dominos, coon hunting, squirrel hunting and enjoyed being around his grandchildren and adored his entire family. He enjoyed visiting friends in the nursing home and always loved to be on the go.
Tom is survived by the love of his life of 52 years, his wife, Irene Stockton, of the home; his son, Roger Stockton of Quinton; his daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Jeff Williams of Quinton; eight grandchildren, Vanessa, Robert Scott, Sherman Andrew, Jessica, Travis, Mason, Grace and Caden; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister and brother-in-law, Dora and Jim Wimberly of Quinton; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Connie Stockton of Quinton and a host of nieces and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Idus and Dale Stockton; a son, Robert Dwayne; 10 brothers, Muriel, Bruce, Idus, Thad, Everett, Walter, Raymond, Jim, Jack and Edger; six sisters, Shirley, Sue, Margie, Ocie, Alzie and Maxine.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2020, in the Quinton Event Center with the Rev. Bill Fitzer officiating. Pallbearers include Poncho Davis, Mike Pearson, Wayne Ogden, Jerry Odgen, Jeff Wimberly and Jeff King.
Burial will follow in Quinton Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
