Sam Cochran

Sam F. Cochran, Jr., 79, of Quinton passed away Friday, March 1, 2019, at Saint Frances Hospital in Muskogee. He was born Feb. 27, 1940, in Phillips, Texas to Sam F. and Esther (Forger) Cochran Sr. Sam grew up in several cities and states as his dad worked for Phillips Petroleum and moved many times. He settled in Sulfur and worked for Spindel Wholesale for 20 years. He worked for Wonder Bread in Liberal, Kan. Sam married Betty Slater on Dec. 1, 1989, in Liberal, Kan. They moved to Quinton in 1991. He began working for the Department of Corrections in McAlester from 1991 to 2010.

Sam loved fly fishing, making fly tying, wood carving, reading and working in the shop. He loved his family and was a member of Quinton church of Christ.

Sam is survived by his wife of 29 years, Betty Cochran, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Jimmy Howeth of El Reno and Cielita and Curtis Spain of Denton, Texas; three stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl and Tommy Fitch of Lindsay, Rhonda and Val Reneau of Calera, and Kara and Charlie Cooper of Lindsay; 12 grandchildren, Chris, Matt, Brit’ny, Caitlyn, Carl Ray, Krysti, Ciera, Cody, Ka’lisa, Jason, Delaney and Remington Bo; 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, Margaret Salvany.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Esther Cochran and a stepdaughter, Donna Kay Branch.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2019, in the R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with Mr. Randy Birckell officiating. Pallbearers included Curt Spain, Jimmy Howeth, Jonathan Stein, Matt Howeth, Chris Howeth and Doug Spearman.

Burial followed at Quinton Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
