Roy Dixon

Roy Roscoe Dixon was born in Stigler, Oklahoma on November 8, 1936 to Elzie and Inez (Robertson) Dixon.  He passed away in Stigler, Oklahoma on October 18, 2021 at the age of 84.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; his sons, Jeff Dixon and wife, Patty, of Sheridan, IN, Brad Dixon of Fort Smith, AR; his grandchildren, Shane Dixon and wife, Danielle, of Tustin, CA, Mikka Hunt and husband, Vann, of Meadville, PA, Preston Dixon and wife, Maya, of Avenue, MD, Brandt Dixon of Muskogee, OK; his great grandchildren, Elisabeth Dixon, Clara Dixon, Jameson Dixon, Jonnah Hunt, Nayommi Hunt, and one due to arrive in December; one brother, Kenneth Dixon and wife, Susan, of Stigler, OK; his nieces and nephew, Sandy Rose, Steve Dixon, Susie White.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie and Inez Dixon.

Roy and Betty were married in 1961. Betty told Roy that he had to cut out the racing stuff and get to know the Lord before she would marry him... and he did. He served as deacon in a couple of churches, Antioch Baptist was the most recent. He was always involved in church activities. He boldly advertised his faith with his final race truck with the slogan “Racing for Jesus”.  

Roy and his family enjoyed attending car shows together. Roy especially loved Corvettes. Jeff drove Roy’s first Corvette one time only after he unknowingly passed Roy on the highway.

Roy was known in the Stigler area as the PSO Area Manager. After his retirement, he opened Dixon Custom Vehicles, which he ran in the shop behind his house.

He attended Eastern Oklahoma State College for a couple of years. He served in the Army Reserves for 22 years. He was a member of a rifle marksman team that travelled around and competed on behalf of the Reserves.

Throughout his life, Roy was a rancher. He helped with his family ranch, but he also ran his own cattle.  He ranched until about 15 years ago when he leased out his property.  

A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Stigler City Cemetery with Rev. Doug Miller officiating. Interment under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.

Pallbearers were Herb Owens, Bill Self, Floyd Coffey, Roger Eakle, Shane Dixon, Jim Bob Kirk.
