Ronald Young

Ronald D. Young of Stigler was born June 21, 1946, in Tulsa to Redman Lee and Anna Mae (Duke) Young. He passed away on April 26, 2018, in Fort Smith at the age of 71.
He is survived by one son, Sam K. Young and wife, Rhonda, of Greenville, Texas; two daughters, Stacey K. Martinez and husband, Mario, of Reno, Nev., Stefanie K. Zachry and husband, Steve, of Brooken; six grandchildren, Kurt Young, Stefen Martinez, Melissa Martinez, Chassity Martinez, Gavin Chapman, Gabi Chapman and Chelsea Young; several nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Lee; two sisters, Shirley Stewart and Frances Haig; one grandson, Justin Young; and his parents.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 at Mallory Chapel in Stigler with the Rev. Vernon Stone officiating.
Viewing was Monday from 2 to 7 p.m., Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Ron lived with his parents in Tulsa until they moved to California, where he finished school and joined the Army in July 1966 at Fort Ord, Calif. He received an award as a marksman and then attended auto maintenance repair school which completed his time in the service. Ron worked as a welder for National Steele as his first job. In Spring Valley, Calif., on March 15, 1968, he married his only wife, Cheryl (Benton) Young. They moved to Oklahoma in 1974, where Ron started an auto repair business. He later went into the construction business until he retired. The couple was married 22 years and have three children together. After retiring, Ron continued to make his home in Oklahoma.
Ron loved to travel and loved the beach. He would take cruises with his sister and her family. He enjoyed baking, scary movies and old cars. He was known as Poppie to his grandchildren.
