Roger Smith

Roger Dale Smith, 80, of Claremore, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at his home. He was born March 20, 1938, in Allen to Roger T. and Nellie E. (Snow) Smith. He grew up in Allen and Tulsa area and graduated from Webster High School in the Class of 1958.

Dale served his country in Korea in the Army. After his service, he began a career in carpentry for some 20 years in California. He owned and operated a full service gas station in Tulsa for several years. In 1979, he moved to Catoosa. Dale married Jonnie Brittain, July 9, 1982, in Little Rock, Ark. They made their home in Catoosa until 2003. He retired in 2000. They moved to Quinton in 2003. He loved wood working and fishing. He was a member of Quinton First Baptist Church.

Dale is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jonnie Smith, of the home; four daughters, Rene Denton of Sand Springs, Louise McDaniel and husband, Lance, Sherry Buechline and husband, Billy, of Catoosa and Christine Bowlin of Owasso; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Geneva Carruthers of Catoosa; two brothers, Delbert Smith of Pawhuska and Johnny Dean Smith of Beggs.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Nellie Smith; five sisters, Nathalee Brown, Betty Ingel, Elwanda Hefley, Sue LeMasters and Darlene Gabbard and a brother, L.B. Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2019, in the R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Dye officiating. Eulogist will be Mr. Wayne Brittain.

Burial will follow at Lona Valley Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler and military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 4446.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Hamm, Billy Buechline, Justin Denton, Keith McDaniel, Tony Gougler and Dustin Potter.
