R.L. ‘Dickey’ Bennett

R.L. “Dickey” Lewis Bennett was born in Binghamton, N.Y. on Nov. 22, 1936, to Lawrence and Mary Jane (Carey) Bennett. He passed away in McCurtain on Aug. 29, 2020, at the age of 83. 

He is survived by his wife, Bertha, of the home; his kids, Dean Bennett and wife, Pam, of McCurtain, Betty Baker of Muldrow, Louise Sullivan of Stigler, Dianne Morrison and husband, Barb, of Stigler, and Pauline Lane and husband, Stanley, of McCurtain; his grandchildren, Amanda Bennett, Franklin Nixon, Jean Burson, Alice Welch, Tina Nixon, Shaneese Nixon, Albert Baker, Cathy Bustamante, Randall Sullivan, Jason Sullivan, David Gabbard, Tallulah Gabbard, Jerry Baker, Derek Lane, Candice Culwell, Starlet Hayes, Crystal Sullivan, Jenny Sullivan and Steven Baker; numerous grandchildren; and his siblings, Elizabeth Watkins, Ronnie Bennett, Brenda Reagan and Chucky Hughes.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Bennett, Mary Jane and Herman Hughes; one daughter, Lena Nixon; his grandson, Dustin Lane; and his siblings, Robert “Bob” Bennett, Brian Bennett, Linda Watson, Mary Nixon, Raymond Bennett and Dale Hughes.

Viewing was held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29 and Sunday, Aug. 30 and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31 and Tuesday, Sept. 1 at Mallory Chapel in Stigler.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020, at McCurtain Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Howard Orr officiating. Interment followed at Miners Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.

Pallbearers were T.J. Welch, Billy Nixon, Albert Baker, Henry Nixon, Norman Nixon and Jerry Baker.
