Raymond Lane

Raymond James Lane, 71, of McCurtain, passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at his home.
He was born Feb. 8, 1945, in McCurtain to Floyd and Thelma (Hume) Lane.
He grew up in McCurtain, where he graduated in 1963.
He married Mary Cravens May 16, 1964, and moved to Broken Arrow and Tulsa.
Raymond began a career with Crescent Precision Products as an inspector for several years. They moved home to McCurtain and he began a second career as a carpenter, building homes.
He and his brother owned and operated L & L Roofing for many years. The last 20 years of his working career he worked as an EMT for various ambulance services in this area. He was proud to serve his community and county. He began a third career as a volunteer fire fighter in 1979 and was instrumental in building up the McCurtain Fire Department into what it is today. He became chief in 1985 until his retirement in 2009. He was also the Haskell County Fire Association Chief for several years. He was responsible for getting much of the rescue equipment for the county and for the Fire Repeater and 911 system. All of his projects are too numerous to list. He enjoyed his grandkids and great-grandkids. He loved mowing his yard and taking care of their place.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Mary Lane of the home; his two daughters, Darla Brassfield and husband Curt of Springtown, Texas, Debra Real of McCurtain; his four grandkids, Steven Paul and wife Amanda of McCurtain, MaryLynn Hatfield and husband Nick of Stigler, Lindie Barnes and husband David of Mansfield, Ark., Dustin Real and wife Jessica of Shady Point; his 10 great-grandkids, Hayden, ShayLynn, Gunner, Sadie, Gerit, Ellie, Sophie, Camden, Abbygail and Mason; his two sisters, Edith Fuller and husband Arvin of McCurtain and Bessie Lang of Wewoka.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Thelma Lane; his brother, William F. Lane; his sister, Thelma Lee Allen.
Services were held Jan. 4 at R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel, and Nick Hatfield officiated. Eulogist was Howard Orr.
Burial followed at Iron Bridge Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home in Stigler.
Pallbearers were members of McCurtain Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers were all of Haskell County fire fighters.
