Pearlie Evon Hancock

Pearlie Evon Hancock of Stigler (formerly of Tulsa) passed away on March 19, 2017, at the age of 97.  
She was born on Oct. 20, 1919, in Keota to Andy and Viola Brown and was their 10th child.  
Evon grew up in Keota and attended Keota School where she completed the 10th grade. In 1938, she met her husband, OvaLee Hancock, and was married on Jan. 21, 1939. They lived in the Keota area until 1952 when they moved to Tulsa, where they raised their three children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her five brothers, Floyd, Hubert, Homer, Eugene and Willard; six sisters, Isabell Eary, Zelma Brigance, Rose Parker, Novella Cravens, Alva Brown and Nellie Kates; and her husband of 41 years.  
She is survived by one daughter, Sue Smith (Roy) of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons, Tommy D. Hancock (Jan) of Blanchard, and Dr. Kenneth L. Hancock (Leigh Ann) of Tulsa; three grandchildren, Robert Hancock of Austin, Texas, Jay Hancock of Tulsa and Amanda Jones of Moore; three great-grandchildren, Sydney Jones, Zoe Jones, and Quinn Hancock; as well as a host of stepgrandchildren; stepgreat grandchildren; stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.
She was a member of Lawnwood Free Will Baptist Church for many years, where she was actively involved in children’s Sunday school, women’s auxiliary, music and choir groups, and particularly quartet groups where she sang alto.
Evon loved the Lord, her family, her church and her church family. She loved to have people in her home for meals.  She loved cooking, sewing and gardening, but her greatest love was singing and Southern Gospel music. She loved people, and loved to laugh and pull pranks on her sisters and close friends.
Evon was a domestic engineer (homemaker) until her 40s when she began her sales career at J.C. Penney’s in the custom drape department and retired after 23 years of employment.  
Funeral services were held March 22 at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Stigler with the Rev. Jack Richey officiating.  Interment followed at Garland Cemetery, Stigler.
Pallbearers were Tilton Brown, Todd Brown, Gary Brown, Roy Smith, Tom Hancock and Ken Hancock.
