Murl Coy

Murl Frances Wallen Coy, 87, of Okmulgee passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, at her home. She was born Jan. 15, 1932, in McCurtain to Absolum and Lottie (Henson) Wallen.

She grew up in the McCurtain area. She was educated at Hootie Country School, outside of McCurtain. Murl married James Coy and they made their home in Craig, Colo. They moved to Morris for several years and in the mid 1960s they moved to Okmulgee. She began cooking for Okmulgee Public Schools and retired after 30 years. Murl adored her family and dedicated her life to them. She loved animals, gardening and fishing. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Regena and Jim Carter and grandson, James, for 16 years.

Murl is survived by her five daughters, Kathryn Fahnholz, Regena Carter and husband, Jim, Debra Coy, Patricia Taylor and Dione Coy, all of Okmulgee; 10 grandchildren, Raquel, Matthew, James, Jason, Amanda, Hesper, Nolan, Alana, Shane and Brandon; four great-grandchildren, Sarah, Jayden, Luke and August.

Murl was preceded in death by her parents, Absolum and Lottie Wallen; her husband, James Coy; a sister, Marjorie Bassett; a brother, Harold Gene Wallen and a granddaughter, Ashley Celeste Taylor.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019, in the R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with Pastor Chet Cottom officiating. Pallbearers included Johnny Baldridge, James Hester, Jeremy Van Straten and Jayden Gartorn.

Burial followed at Iron Bridge Cemetery in Keota under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
