M.H. ‘Duke’ Dunn

M.H. “Duke” Dunn of Stigler was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Monroe to Marion and Myra Ottie (Collum) Dunn and passed away Feb. 17, 2017, in Stigler at the age of 97.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Lee and husband, Mike of Poteau; one son, Gary Dunn of Stigler; four grandchildren, Cale Dunn and wife, April of Eufaula, Tori Shrum and husband,
Paul of Porum, Alison Sparks and husband, Jason of Poteau, Aimee Ferguson and husband, Chris of Broken Arrow; three step grandchildren, Andy Lee of Tulsa, Marjorie Moreland and husband, Randy of Montgomery, Texas, Julie German and husband, Terry of Lake Jackson, Texas; 12 great-grandchildren, Bailey, Drew, Josie, Tucker, Wesley, Luke, Livia, Duke, Jett, Dallas, Hannah and Montana; four step great- grandchildren, Brooklyn, Blake, Andrea and Natalie; several nieces and nephews.
Duke was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Lou Dunn; four brothers, Cecil, Charlie, Golden, Donald; two sisters, Ruth and Mary; and his parents.
Marion Duke Dunn was an extremely active member of his community and surrounding communities. Through the years, Duke served in many capacities throughout the State of Oklahoma, Haskell County and the City of Stigler, even serving within our nation’s Armed Forces joining the Air Force. Duke served on the Kiamichi Country Board, the Kiamichi Economic Development District of Oklahoma, and the Stigler and Haskell County Industrial Development Authority. Duke was a past director of the Oklahoma Automotive Dealer Association, Executive Board Member of the Boy Scouts of America Choctaw Area, serving also the Highway 82 Association of Highway 82 Boosters.
Duke was instrumental in the organization of the Stigler Drivers Education Program and a past Emergency Management Service Board Chairman. He was a member of the Stigler Lions Club and a Past President of the Stigler Chamber of Commerce. Duke also assisted as the Haskell County Recreation Club Past President and was a board member for the United Methodist Church of Stigler. Duke was a recipient of the Stigler Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award.
Services were held Feb. 21 at First United Methodist Church of Stigler with the Rev. Jim Perkin officiating. Burial followed at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory of Stigler.
Pallbearers were Carroll Huggins, Dr. Thomas Conklin Jr., Wesley Shelton, Larry Godfrey, Jim Smith and Joe Martin.
