Mary Reynolds

Mary Ellen (Stanfield) Reynolds, 91, of Quinton departed this life Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Haskell County Community Hospital in Stigler. She was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Quinton to Augustus and Ruth (Simpkins) Stanfield.
Mary Ellen was a retired educator, having taught more than 30 years in Oklahoma schools. Her educational degrees were earned from Eastern Oklahoma State College, Southeastern State University, University of Central Oklahoma, East Central University and Oklahoma State University.
Mary Ellen taught at Crosslane Rural School with her mother, Ruth, and future husband Roy. She also taught the second grade at Quinton Elementary School and at McAlester Kiamichi Vo-Tech School, where she developed the second Home Economics Class offered in Oklahoma for special needs students.
Mary Ellen enjoyed Thunder basketball and listened to their games with her friends and son, Joe, who often gave her play-by-play action when she couldn’t get Thunder on TV. She also was an avid traveler. Such trips included her grandchildren’s graduations, any activities her family members were involved in and various destinations throughout the United States. Her most memorable trip was to Israel, where she was baptized in the Jordan River by her younger brother, David.
She loved gardening, sewing and cooking, but most of all she adored her family. All these skills were passed on to family members. Family get-togethers, usually more than five a year, were the highlight of her life. Each one she considered better than the last. “Didn’t everyone have a good time, we had such good food,” was her favorite comment after each get-together.
