Marty Young

Mister Marty Ray “Dad” Young passed away peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 22, 2016, in Muskogee at the age of 60.
Marty is survived by his wife, Julie Young; his children, Reuben of the home, Billy, Sam of Lebanon, Mo., Ricky and Trisha of Springfield, Mo., Ethan Young and Emily Young of Crowder; siblings, Artie Young and Mary Gee, of Quinton; and grandson, Malachi Ray Young of Springfield, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Lola Mae Skrimager-Young; and one son, Joshua Sheppard-Young.
Marty was born on Feb. 14, 1956, in Bascom to Leon and Lola Mae Young. He married Julie, his one true love, a nurse, in 1997. Seldom moving from Quinton, Marty began working for himself as a small engine mechanic. After marrying Julie, who already had five boys, Marty set about teaching them engine repair. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, patient, driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Marty was accomplished at woodworking and often built cedar boxes for those he loved. He was a generous, witty, dedicated, loving individual who loved mowers and who was passionate about his family and anything his wife cooked. He was a dedicated member of his family and often volunteered in the kitchen and to help others.
A memorial will be held Saturday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m., at Jesus Name Pentecostal Church in Quinton. Pastor Donny Taylor will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marty’s life.
The family would like to thank Jimmy Gee, Charlie Sills, Jesus Name Pentecostal Church and any other unnamed people for their kindness and generosity.
