Luther Bruner

Luther “Lukie” Bruner, 57, lifelong resident of Keota, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at Haskell County Community Hospital in Stigler. He was born April 5, 1961, in Keota to Clarence and Berniece (Honeycutt) Bruner.

He grew up and graduated from Keota High School. He was a truck driver for several different companies for years around this area, he worked in the oil field for years. He met and fell in love with April Blaylock, the love of his life, and they were married Sept. 23, 1995, and made their home in Keota and raised their family there.

Lukie was a hardworking man, a family man that loved his family and adored those grandkids; he had nicknames for all of them. He loved the time spent with April working by his side as they took care of the cows; and the years he was sick, she was by his side, always there taking care of him. He loved working with his tractor out on their place and usually one of the boys was out there helping. He had a heart for God and was a Sunday school teacher at Tamaha Freewill Baptist Church. He was a man of integrity and taught that to his kids, loved the Word of God.

He and April raised them in church. He’d help anyone that he could, he loved people. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Lukie is survived by his wife, his soulmate of 22 years, April Bruner of the home; their daughter, Brianna of the home; their four sons, Dustine Bruner and wife, Gwen, of Fort Smith, Ark., Derrick Bruner of Krebs, Aaron Blaylock and wife, Summer, of Keota and Jacob Blaylock and wife, Jessica, of Keota; eight grandkids, Bladen (Fizzle Britches), Blazen (Happy Jack), Remington (Shotgun), Brantley (White Boy), Lexie (Lexicon), Bailee (Bailee Jo), Hunter (22) and Briggsten (Lucas); two foster children, James and Michael Sullivan; three sisters, Connie Jordon and husband, Tracy, Karen Bishop and husband, Roy, and Judi Stubblefield; two brothers, George Bruner and Junior Bruner and wife, Teresa; mother-in-law, Lois Carry; a host of other relatives and friends.

Lukie was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Berniece Bruner; brother, Ronnie Porter; father-in-law, Son Carry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2018, with the Rev. Ronnie Brown officiating. Eulogist was Mr. Scott Welch.
