Louise Smith

Mildred Louise (Woodall) Smith, of Stigler, Oklahoma passed away at her son’s home in Poteau, Oklahoma on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the age of 96.

 She was born September 19, 1925 in Keota, Oklahoma to George and Ethel Woodall. After graduating from Keota High School in 1943, Louise married Homer O. Smith, they were married for over 70 years.

Louise worked for the City of Stigler as Clerk/Secretary for twenty years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was known for cooking great food, especially sweet potatoes and coconut pie. She loved to read and swap books with friends. Louise was a member of Main Street Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was a long-time member of the Haskell County Hospital Auxiliary and an Election Board worker.

She is survived by:

One son and daughter-in-law:

Joe and Alice Smith of Poteau, OK

Three Granddaughters:

Angela Jordan of Tuskahoma; Audrey Fassio and husband, Chris of Poteau, OK

Jessica Winkle and husband, Joey of Stigler, OK

Eleven Great-Grandchildren:

Jace, Jaxon and Jentri Jordan of Poteau, OK

Trenton, Trista and Tyler Fassio of Poteau, OK

Ireland and Raelyn Owens of Stigler, OK

Jackson, Jayce and Riley Winkle of Stigler, OK

Special nephews:

James W. Smith of Stigler and James Ray Turrentine of Ardmore, OK

Numerous nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 70 years, Homer Smith; two sisters, Geneva Hornet and Mary Veatch; and brother, Jack Woodall.

Viewing will be held at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Stigler from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 29 and from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 30 with family visitation from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday, October 1, 2021, at Main Street Baptist 

Church, Stigler with Rev. Jeff Berger officiating. Burial will follow in Stigler City Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Stigler.
