Laura ‘Jo’ Bacorn

Laura Josephine “Jo” Bacorn, 86, of Featherston passed away Sept. 4, 2016, in Quinton. She was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Glover, the daughter of Jesse and Pearl Raines Whisenhunt. Jo and Gilbert Bacorn were married April 14, 1947, in Idabel.  
Jo was a member of the Featherston Baptist Church.
She was a long time member of the Glover Missionary Baptist Church, Glover.  
She was a great influence on her children and grandchildren, instilling in them the importance of church and family. She had lived most of her life in McCurtain County before relocating to Featherston in 1995. She and her husband, Gilbert, worked side by side on the family farm, raising cattle, operating a dairy and baling hay.  She was known for her hay raking skills.
She loved spending time with her family and always made sure there was a big meal prepared on Sunday afternoons; her specialty being fried chicken.
 Jo was always willing to help out those in her family and community. She had a love for music, especially southern gospel and blue grass. She loved to sing and sang with her husband and daughters at her church and association meetings. She enjoyed working in her yard and garden, and in her younger years she enjoyed riding horses with her brother, JD.  
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Gilbert Bacorn; her parents Jesse and Pearl Whisenhunt; son-in-law, Arvil Davis; great-grandson, David Bean; brother, JD Whisenhunt; and sisters, Lula Mae Bean and Essie Faye Sokalov.
Jo leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Steven and Ella Bacorn of Broken Bow, Kenneth and Levitia Bacorn of Quinton; three daughters, Joan and Johnny Moon of Ashdown, Ark., Cheryl Davis of Featherston. and Sharon and Glenn  Strawn of Durant; grandchildren, Jammie and Mark Bean, Todd Moon, Teresa and Brian Greeson, Jeannie and Lance Chadwick, Dale and Jennifer Bacorn, Luanna and Joe Romaro, Jacky and Lacey Davis, Tracy and Brock Trotter, Daniel and Emma Bacorn, Tanner and Nina Strawn, Dustin Bacorn,  Misty Rachal, and Brad and Amy Peccio;  26 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bo and Georgia Whisenhunt, Golden; Glen and Norma Whisenhunt, Rufe; Ron and Charlene Whisenhunt, Broken Bow; and Jimmy Whisenhunt, Tyler, Texas; sister, Donna Lee and Harlin Lovely, Tillamook, Ore.; and sister-in-law, Donnie Whisenhunt of Glover; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Todd Moon, Dale Bacorn, Jacky Davis, Daniel Bacorn, Tanner Strawn and Dustin Bacorn. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Bean, Brian Greeson, Lance Chadwick, Joe Romero, Brock Trotter, Brad Peccio, Kenneth Brunson, Wayne Ogden, Dee Gray and Zane Gray.  
Services were held at Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Brumley-Mills Chapel, McAlester with the Rev. Randall Pearce and Daniel Bacorn officiating. Burial followed at the Featherston Cemetery.
