Johnnie Buttram, 78, of Stigler, Okla. passed over to the other side on July 5, 2021. 

Johnnie Wayne Buttram was born in Douthat, Okla. on Jan. 8, 1943, to John Irvin Buttram and Mary (Griffin) Buttram and was raised and schooled in Quapaw, Okla.

Johnnie was also the Open Heavyweight Amateur Boxing Champion of Oklahoma for 16 years.

Johnnie is survived by, his wife of 51 years, Carol Jean Cumpton, also known as Prissy, who was the love of his life; one daughter, Shannon Diane Huffman and husband, Steve, of Miami, Okla.; one son, Jeffery James Buttram and wife, May, of Shawnee, Okla.; three brothers, Jerry Buttram of Mount Vernon, Mo.; Jim Buttram and wife, Martha, of Tomball, Texas and Jack Buttram of Quapaw, Okla.; Five grandchildren, Keri Johnson, Jacqueline Buttram, Brady Huffman, Suenju Buttram and Marielle Buttram; and five great-grandchildren, Sophia, Shyla, Jonathan, Samantha and Jai’dence.

Johnnie truly loved his Creator … his family and friends.

Johnnie fervently prayed to someday live in a world where everyone wanted to do the right things for the right reasons.

Johnnie’s final wish was to have his ashes deposited into the South Canadian River that flows in the Arkansas and Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
