John Nix

John J. Nix died peacefully on March 14, 2019, at Quinton Manor. John was born on March 24, 1924, in McCurtain to Jonathon and Elba Gowan Nix.

John grew up in McCurtain. He enlisted in the Army at 18 years old. He was a Sergeant in WWII. During his service, he was a recipient of several medals, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was very proud of his Choctaw heritage.

On Aug. 6, 1945, John married the love of his life, Lola Johnson Nix. They celebrated 71 years of marriage. He retired in 1985 and moved to Quinton. He enjoyed raising cattle, gardening and visiting with friends at the coffee shop.

John is survived by two children, Tom Nix and wife, Cheryl, of Stigler and Debbie West and husband, Mike, of Quinton; grandchildren, Cindy Reid, Misty Parker and husband, David, Justin Nix and wife, Patti, Angie Denny and husband, Jack, Kristina Nix, Josh Nix and wife, Kaylen, Mike, Jr. and wife, Katrina, Candace Few and husband, Jeff, Jonathon West and Will Green and Steve West and wife, Amanda; great-grandchildren, Tara and Ahren Reid, Ryan Parker, Christian and Jayden Nix, Joshua and A.J. Ford, Aubrey Nix, Journey and Jaxton West, Zach and Moose Few and Jaden, Stanton, Sadie, Tyson and Tucker West.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lola; his sisters, Helen Nix and Dorothy Gatewood; his brother, David Nix; his son, Ronnie Nix and one grandson, Jonathan Nix.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Ash Creek Cemetery in Elm Point with Bro. Tony Randol officiating, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory Services of Stigler.
