Joan Virden

Joan Virden, 81, of Bartlesville, Okla., passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2021. Joan was born Jan. 23, 1940, in California, to parents Thomas Monroe Lewis II and Lillie Clare (Wood) Lewis. 

She graduated from Stigler High School and then graduated nursing school in 1974. Joan married the love of her life, Roger Benton Virden on Aug. 12, 1960. Joan was a cancer survivor. She worked as a nurse for more than 20 years at Jane Phillips Medical Center. She loved being a nurse and helping others. Joan worked in the CCU and ICU as well as other areas of the hospital. She never met a stranger and always knew just the right thing to say to lift someone’s spirits. Joan’s greatest joy was her family. Family meant the world to her and to her family, she was everything. She loved watching her grandson grow up and was very proud of him. She is responsible for many of the good qualities in her children, grandson and even her daughter-in-law, Kandi. Joan had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She could light up a room with her smile. She loved to cook, collecting and going to garage sales to find bargains. Joan was meticulous, making sure everything was planned and taken care of for her family – even after she was no longer there. Joan always put everyone before herself and never stopped being Mom.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas “Tommie” and Lillie Clare (Wood) Lewis; sisters, Shirley June (Lewis) Mack and Evelyn Ruth (Lewis) Hulluma; son, Lance Kevin Virden and nephew, Matthew Mack. 

Joan is survived by her husband, Roger Benton Virden; son, Chad Eric Virden; daughter-in-law, Kandi Rae Gaus and grandson, Eric Benton Virden of Carmel, Ind.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
