Jerry Brassfield

Jerry  Brassfield of McCurtain was born May 23, 1958, in Decatur, Texas to Robert and Wanda (Ham) Brassfield  and passed away Dec. 24, 2016, in McCurtain at the age of 58.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Brassfield; four daughters, Kimberly Brassfield “Harris,” Tracie Yaws, Lacie Holt and Candy Strain; three sons, Jeremy Brassfield, Colby Brassfield, and Bobby Ballard; one sister, Mindy Brassfield; three half sisters, Teresa, Debra and Elam; two half brothers, Robert Brassfield and Mark Brassfield; 15 grandchildren, Tyler, Tanner, Dawson, Newt, Elynn, Lane, Rody, Mesa, Ryder, Caleb, Carson, Chaseten, Jaxton, Hagen and Harley; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of loving friends.
Jerry was baptized March 31, 1968, at First Baptist Church in McCurtain, where he grew up. He became a member of the McCurtain Volunteer Fire Department in the late 1970’s-2008 and served as assistant chief as well as helping establish the McCurtain Fire Department. Jerry started working for Haskell County District 1 in the winter of 2000 where he operated numerous types of equipment.
He graduated from The Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training on Dec. 11, 2003. Around June 2003 he became a reserve deputy for the McCurtain Police Department. He served the citizens of McCurtain for approximately 13 years. He was involved in numerous events within the city including parades, Fourth of July events, placement of city street signs, park committee and implementation of 911 systems.
Jerry’s first priority was always to the citizens and the security of the town.
Jerry’s love for his children and grandchildren can’t be described in words. Jerry was a great provider for his family and always put their needs ahead of his own.
Jerry was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. Jerry’s love and presence will be missed by many. McCurtain 21 to 500. I’ll be 1010 E.O.W. 12-24-16.
Services were held Dec. 29 at  McCurtain High School auditorium with the Rev. Heath Cole officiating. Burial followed at Old Panther Cemetery under the direction of the Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Floyd and Florene Brassfield who raised him, mother and father, Lynette and Earl Brassfied; sister, Earlene Townson.
Pallbearers were Charlie Stout, Coot McCular, Marlin Baker, Larry Lovell, Johnny Stout and Gary Stout.
Honorary pallbearers were Rub Oliver, Oliver Taylor, Lucky Huff, Mike Coble, Clark McClary and Danny Cox.
