Janis Kay (Mills) McKee of Quinton, Okla., born April 2, 1942, to John Sailor and Leola (Seabolt) Mills, took her heavenly flight Dec. 20, 2020, at the age of 78 years in McAlester, Okla.  

Kay was born in the West Liberty Community near Quinton, Okla. and lived there most of her life. She went to school at West Liberty School and later at Quinton High School.

On Sept. 14, 1957, she married Billy Gene McKee of Russellville Community in Oklahoma. To them were born two daughters, Sandra Kay and Vonda Gayle.

Kay worked for KI BOIS Head Start for 38 years, retiring June 2008 along with her husband, Billy Gene. Kay was a lifelong member of West Liberty Baptist Church, Quinton, Okla., where she was pianist for 60 plus years. Also, Sunday School teacher, youth director and Vacation Bible School director for many years. Kay enjoyed working in her yard, growing a garden, beautiful flowers, especially wildflowers from the edge of the road. She also was an avid shopper, especially yard sales. She enjoyed singing with her mother and sisters and family friend, Arlanda Eakle for many years, being called The Mills Family. She also played the piano for and sang with the Gospel Cousins for many years. She loved her family, her church and her friends.

Kay is survived by her daughters, Sandra Kay (McKee) Few and husband, Donnie, of Quinton, Okla. and Vonda Gayle (McKee) Roberts and husband, Mickey, of Quinton, Okla.; one granddaughter, Nycki (Roberts) Cloud and husband, Josh Cloud, of Quinton, Okla.; a great-granddaughter, Haelyn Cloud, of Quinton, Okla.; and a great-grandson, Jagger Cloud. of Quinton, Okla.  She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Coy Few, Jim Eakle and Everett McKee; sisters-in-law, Georgia Brunson, Margie Shockley and Gertie Elam, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, John and Leola Mills; her husband, Billy Gene McKee; her sisters, Johnia Wren, Glen Few, Phyllis Eakle and Judy Strain; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Bessie McKee; her sisters-in-law, Lorene Griffin, Gladys Wagnon and Norma McKee; and her brothers-in-law, Columbus McKee, Bud Wren, Stanford Strain, George Wagnon, Johnny Anderson, Johnny Griffin and James Brunson.

Viewing was held at Mallory Chapel in Quinton on Tuesday, Dec. 22; and will be held Wednesday, Dec. 23 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; on Thursday, Dec. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and on Saturday, Dec. 26 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with family visitation from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 27, 2020, at West Liberty Baptist Church with Bro. Josh Cate, Bro. Coy Mike Few and the Rev. Tom Chappell officiating. Face masks will be required. Interment will follow at West Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.

Pallbearers are Stan Strain, Brad Strain, Johnny Wagnon, Josh Cloud, Donnie Few and Mickey Roberts.
