Janet Maxwell

Janet Lynn Maxwell (Folsom, Spradley), 68, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2021, in Stigler, Okla. She was born on Feb. 25, 1952, in Ft. Smith, Ark. to John and Melba (Broughton) Maxwell of Tucker, Okla. and spent most of her life in eastern Oklahoma.

She is survived by her son, Charles Folsom and wife, April, of McAlester, Okla.; son, Kennith Folsom and husband, David Ruel, of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Stacy (Folsom) Needham of Elkins, Ark.; sister, Joan Craig and husband, Nathaniel, of Stigler, Okla.; and her six grandchildren, Elizabeth Folsom (Jake Engleman), Ian Folsom (Lexy), Hailey Folsom (Kenny Quintana), Quintin Needham (Erica), Austin Needham (Rebecca Davis) and Briar Needham (Ashley Thomas).

She is also survived by her four great-grandchildren, Jayden Nelms, Tegan Needham, Kylie Needham and Gemma Needham.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved pet and companion, Sweetie (the parakeet), who passed recently at the age of 12.

Janet was a 1970 graduate of Keota High School and held numerous local jobs including the healthcare industry throughout her life. However, the role she was most proud of was being “Granny Janet” to not only her own grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also to her numerous “kids” that she babysat and cared for throughout the years.

In her memory, her children request that you “make your bed and clean your room before you leave the house this morning.” Even if it makes you miss the bus and you have to walk to school. You should “know the house rules by now,” and there are no excuses. (However, with the arrival of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, those “house rules” were greatly reduced to a good neck hug before leaving. Charlie, Kenny, and Stacy are not the least bit bitter about this.)

A public memorial service will be held on her 69th birthday on Feb. 25, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the Stigler City Cemetery in Stigler, Okla. “Masks are required at the request of the family.”
