Freeda Doss

Freeda Irene Doss of Kanima passed away on March 22, 2017, in Stigler at the age of 86. She was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Keota to Wilburn and Beulla (Shepherd) Cordle, the eldest of three kids.
Freeda was raised around Keota and for a short time at Bengal. She played basketball at Keota, and lettered in it, she received her letter jacket, something she was always proud of and donated back to Keota just a few years ago. On May 6, 1949, she married Herman Lee Doss Jr. (H.L.) and to this union had four sons. Freeda and H.L. lived their whole lives around Keota except for a short time in Texas and California. In the mid 60s, they bought some land in Kanima and built the home that they would live in for the next 50 something years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Willard and Glyn Cordle; husband of 61 years; and great-granddaughter, Trista Lynn Doss; and one son, Glyn Neal Doss.
She is survived by three sons, Jim Doss and wife, Ava of Broken Arrow, Mike Doss of Kanima and Gordon Doss and wife, Stephanie of Keota; a daughter-in-law, Jane Patton Doss of Keota; eight grandchildren, Stacy Medlin of Coweta, Jason Doss of Broken Arrow, Bradley Doss of Keota, Tamara Hill of Keota,  Krista Boston of Muskogee, Jeremy Doss of Muskogee, Dylan Doss of Keota and Garrett Doss of Keota; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was a lifetime member of Iron Bridge Free Will Baptist Church where she was active in serving as a secretary/treasurer for many years. She lived her whole life for Jesus and is now reaping the rewards. Freeda always tried to set a good, honest example for her family. She was a kind loving mother who will be greatly missed. She also liked working in her yard and garden. She loved flowers and always had a beautiful yard in the summer. She has lots of fruit trees in her yard and not a single fruit would go to waste if she could help it. She would can it, freeze it or just give it away. Freeda was a hard worker. She began her working career working for L.B. Burris at his store and later as a nurse’s aid. In her late 40s she went back to school and became an LPN. Quite an honor for an old country girl, and she continued to be a nurse until retirement.
Services were held March 28 at Iron Bridge Free Will Baptist Church with AJ Robinson and Gary Brown officiating. Burial followed at Keota Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Stigler.
Pallbearers were Jim Doss, Mike Doss, Gordon Doss, Jason Doss, Bradley Doss, Dylan Doss and Garrett Doss.
Honorary pallbearers were John Gilstrap, Sonny McCann, Cecil Bratton, Mrs. Lois Kinsey, Dr. T.H. Conklin and Jeremy Doss.
