Fred Hughes

Fred Sidney Hughes, 83, of Kinta, passed from this life Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 7, 1935, in Haleyville, Ala., to John and Della (Sisson) Hughes.

Fred served his country in the Air Force. He married the love of his life, Peggy Ann Burwell, on Aug. 26, 1957. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family and the time they spent together. He was member of the Masonic Lodge.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 60 wonderful years, Peggy Hughes of the home; five daughters, Kelly Hughes Armstrong of Florence, Ala., Kimberley Hughes Tucker and husband, Ricky, of Tuscumbia, Ala., Cindy Hughes Lovelace and husband, Hollis, of Florence, Ala., Bridgett Hughes Wells and husband, Frank, of Kinta and Heidi Hughes Carpenter and husband, Brad, of Kinta; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, John and Della Hughes; six brothers and three sisters.

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, at R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with Mr. Hollis Lovelace officiating. Eulogist was Mr. Bill Matthews. Honorary pallbearers included Tyler Armstrong, Will Armstrong, John Ryan Hughes, Aubrey Carpenter, Sara Quinn, Lauren Tucker, Leslie Fulmer, Abbie Lovelace, Hollie Lovelace and Hanna Carpenter.

Cremation arrangements were made under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
