Edward Matthews

Edward Wiley Matthews of Kinta was born in Stevenson, Ala., on Dec. 9, 1927, to Walker and Cornelia (Warren) Matthews. He passed away in Fort Smith, Ark., on April 6, 2019, at the age of 91.
Edward is survived by his grandson, Ethane Hogan of Kinta; one brother, David Matthews of Stigler; nieces and nephews, Larry Matthews of Claremore, Brenda Carlisle of Tulsa, Lydia Morris of Cameron, Ivan Matthews of Durant and Mel Matthews of Gallatin, Tenn.; special friend, Faye Salyers of Stigler and numerous great-nieces, nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, Matthews; one son, Stephen Matthews; his parents, Walker and Cornelia Matthews; great-grandson, Kace Hogan; two sisters, Rena Mae Fox and Pauline Giles; one brother, Chester Ray Matthews; two nieces, Gaylynn Coplen and Sherry Carter and two nephews, Steve Williams and Ricky Dunn.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at Mallory Chapel in Stigler with the Rev. Jeff Bengs and Kenneth Kelley officiating. Interment will follow at Sans Bois Cemetery in Kinta under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.
Family visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2019, at Mallory Chapel in Stigler.
Pallbearers include Ron Lockwood, Kenny Pugh, Charles Allen, Wyatt Coble, Kenneth Kelley and Tommy Buie.
Honorary pallbearers include David Matthews, Ronnie Terrell, Ivan Matthews and Mel Matthews.
