Edward Ames

Edward Ames Jr. was born in St. Louis, Miss., on Sept. 14, 1929, to Raymond W. Ames and Marie Ames.
Following graduation from high school in 1947 and a short working career in and around St. Louis, Edward (Eddie) enlisted in the United States Navy and then transferred over to the U.S. Army in 1953.  Eddie later graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and built a career with Texaco in Port Neches, Texas, in the refinery.  He retired as superintendent in 1994 with over 35 years career experience.
Eddie was preceded in death by his mother and father; first wife,  Bobbie Earlene McClain; and his recently deceased wife, Tilli E. Ames of Stigler.
He is survived by three children, Judy Mabry of Houston, Texas, Edward J. Ames of Ft. Worth, Texas, Edmund L. James of Hoyt; two step-children, Jessie James of Orrstown, Pa., Charlotte Stukey of Bartlesville; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eddie had a passion for golf and his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Stigler. He loved traveling, as he and Tilli went many places together including several trips to Germany to visit Tilli’s family. He loved serving his church, his Lord, and his community. He will be greatly missed, but today stands in the presence of his Lord and Creator and has been reunited with those who have gone on before him.
Graveside services were held Oct. 29 at Stigler City Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Murry officiating under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory of Stigler.
