Dorothy Ary

Dorothy Faye (Thompson) Ary was born on Dec. 20, 1926, in the Perry community near Stigler to Alvin Lorenzo and Margaret Ethel (Wright) Thompson. She lived her entire life in or close to Stigler. Dorothy passed away in Stigler on March 2, 2019, at the age of 92.

She met the love of her life, Clifford Ary, in a café near the Stigler Canning Company where she was employed. They were married Aug. 31, 1946.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Judy Ann (Ary) Harrell and husband, Jim, of Stigler, Eddie Joe Ary and wife, Phyllis (Ellis), of Stigler and Terry Lynn Ary and wife, Debbi (Medlock), of Grove; one sister, Emma Lou (Thompson) Hill of Stigler; grandchildren, Ryan K. Ary of Little Rock, Ark., Royce J. Ary and wife, Romona, of Hensley, Ark., Jessica N. Ary of Bishop, Calif. and Kyle A. Ary and wife, Erica, of Tulsa; great-grandchildren, Lydia M. (Ary) Merkhi and husband, Helmi, of Honolulu, Hawaii and Lucas A. Ary of Redfield, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her parents, Alvin Lorenzo and Margaret Ethel (Wright) Thompson; her sisters, Ruth Livesay and Pearl Cole and her brothers, Clarence, Ira, Lindon, Truman, Leon and Ernest Thompson. Of the 10 children born to Alvin and Margaret Thompson, Dorothy was the eighth child.

She thoroughly enjoyed school, but after completing the eighth grade at the Perry Community School, she had to devote her full time to working on the farm. Reading and Oklahoma history were her favorite subjects. She faithfully attended the Perry Free Will Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. Dorothy taught the adult women’s Sunday school class for many years.

She was a great cook and worked at the Stigler Middle School cafeteria for many years. Her family always looked forward to the delicious Thanksgiving and Christmas meals she prepared every year as long as she was able to do so.

Dorothy had many activities and pastimes that enriched her life and the lives of others. She loved to sew and made many of her children’s clothes, as well as quilts for her children and for sale. Later in life she concentrated on the sewing of baby quilts and hand-embroidered most of them. She liked to travel and made many bus trips conducted by her sister Emma Lou and husband, Carl Hill. She and Clifford also traveled frequently in their travel trailer. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and many varieties beautified her home in the spring and summer.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Mallory Chapel in Stigler with Pastor Denver Bowen officiating and Eulogy by the Rev. Darren Riddle. Interment followed at Stigler City Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.

Family visitation was at Mallory Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2019.

Pallbearers were Kyle Ary, Royce Ary, Ryan Ary, Lucas Ary, James Collins and Kevin Hendrix.

Honorary pallbearers were Jessica Ary, Jim Harrell, Jimmy Echelle, Jim Steen, Chick Kelley, Larry Collins, Dallas Smith and Billy Joe Ary.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in memory of Dorothy be made to Perry Free Will Baptist Church, 10267 N. Perry Road Stigler, OK 74462.
