Delmus ‘Gene’ Basta

Delmus Eugene “Gene” Basta was born Feb. 10, 1942, in Stigler to Benjamin Harrison Ragsdale and Agnes (Wade) Basta, and passed away on May 9, 2017, in Whitefield at the age of 75.
Gene graduated from Stigler High School in 1960, the same year he was drafted into the Air Force and that is where he met his wife Ann. He was stationed at Offutt Air Force base in Omaha, Neb.
After being discharged honorably from the Air Force, he moved back to Oklahoma to start his career as a police officer.
Gene retired in 1991, and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by two sons, Don Basta of Norfolk, Va., and his children, Amanda and Alex Basta; and Terry Basta and his wife, Kim of Whitefield, and their children, Kristeena and Elliott Basta.
Basta was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ann Basta.
Memorial services were held May 15 at Mallory Chapel with the Rev. Sam Dunn officiating.
