Debra Kay McCoy was born Dec. 10, 1963, to Joe and Trucilla (Stephenson) Harmon in McAlester. The Lord called her home on Nov. 25, 2020 at the age of 56. Debby grew up in Quinton and Brooken. She spent many hours as a toddler and child at Pete’s Place in Brooken with her grandparents. Even then, she never met a stranger. She continued to work at Pete’s Place through high school. She graduated from Quinton High School in 1981 and went on to Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. Debby was active in cheerleading and band. She always had a host of friends. Many friends considered her home as theirs as she and her family always made everyone feel welcome. Debby married Mark McCoy, the love of her life in 1982. They welcomed their first child Ashley in 1983 and Amanda in 1985.

Debby considered herself the luckiest woman alive to have such a beautiful family. Her family ALWAYS came first and she loved fiercely. Debby began her career in the Court Clerk’s office at the Haskell County Court House in 1984. Debby was an active employee at the time of her death making her the employee with the longest longevity of 36 years. Debby considered her job her ministry and didn’t hesitate to let you know that. She loved on people who had no one else to love them. She encouraged them and did everything possible to help them see good in themselves and certainly made sure they needed Jesus in the most loving and kind way. Debby is also known for her amazing creative talents in jewelry making and decorating. She loved beautiful things. You could always find Deb at any sporting event that involved Garon and Kacen. She rarely missed an opportunity to support her boys that she loved dearly. Debby was an active member of Stigler First Baptist Church. Just like her family and her job, her impact there was astounding. She served in children’s ministry as the infant Sunday School teacher, helped in the youth department, taught Bible classes, cooked Wednesday night meals, served on countless committees and most of all she PRAYED for everyone. She was a prayer warrior for all. Debby had a special gift of making everyone feel special and loved. She was a Christian momma to MANY young people. She never missed an opportunity to share the love of Jesus and remind everyone that God is able. In great Debby fashion and love she spent the last eight months of her life living with her mother and father in law, along with Mark, taking care of them to make sure they spent their last days together in comfort and peace. Her love was unconditional. Her memory will live on in so many ways through her life and legacy.

Debby is survived by her husband, Mark, of the home; her father, Joe Harmon, of Stigler; two daughters, Ashley McCoy of Stigler and Amanda McCoy of Stigler; a grandson, Kacen Mark McCoy of Stigler; a sister, Lana Mayhall and husband, Randy, of Stigler.; a nephew, Garon Mayhall of Stigler; Haskell County Court Clerk Office Employees; a host of friends and relatives.

Debby was preceded in death by her mother, Trucilla Kay (Stephenson) Harmon; her maternal grandparents, K.C. (Pete) and Thelma Stephenson; her paternal grandparents, Alf and Faye Harmon; her mother and father-in-law Erniece and Gordon Maxwell.

Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, at Stigler First Baptist Church with Dr. Daniel Milligan officiating. Eulogist was Mr. Jeff Dover. Pallbearers included Garon Mayhall, Kacen McCoy, Randy Mayhall, Coy Mike Few, Judge Brian Henderson and Dr. Steve Woodson. Honorary pallbearers were Darwin Rea, Royce Alverson, Ted Spears, Leonard Mayhall, Herschel Prentice, Ed Balunas, Stigler First Baptist deacons, Tina Oaks, Kristin Hortsman, Alex Eaton and Robin Rea.
