Clara Burnett
Clara Edith (Bass) Burnett was born on June 8, 1942, in Porum, to Elster and Mildred (Barnes) Bass. She passed away on April 28, 2020, in Porum, at the age of 77.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy, of the home; her children, Becky Davenport and husband, Terry, of Longtown and Ricky Burnett and wife, Tonya, of Porum; her grandchildren, Julie Davenport and Bianka, Kyle Burnett and wife, Brittany, and Hailey Burnett and Aron Sloan; her great-grandchildren, Caleb, Kennedy and Luxie (on the way) Burnett, Bexlee and Gunner Sloan; her brothers, Billy Bass of McGehee, Ark., Aubrey Bass and wife, Ellen, of Manteca, Calif.; her sisters, Donna Weeks of Canadian and Mozelle Pearce and husband, Ronnie, of Porum; special people in her life, Donna Moore, her best friend Pam, and Layton Plunkett.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Elster and Mildred Bass; her brothers, Van Bass, Bertas Bass, Marcus Bass, Earl Bass and Murl Bass; and her sisters, Mary Simpkins, Dorine Stepp and Betty Jane Bass.
Edith was raised in the Vann area and married Leroy Burnett on March 25, 1960. She started working for the Porum School District in January 1966 and retired in May 2004 after 39 and a half years of service as the superintendent’s secretary.
Viewing was held at Mallory Chapel in Porum from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29; from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1; and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 2. Family visitation was held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 1.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Fields Cemetery in Porum. Interment under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.
Pallbearers were Brent Pearce, Jeff Weeks, Mike Bass, Timmy Burnett, Kevin Burnett and Harold “Bud” Burnett II.
Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Crittenden, Mark Breedlove, Raymond Tinney, Mark Calavan, Justin Retchloff, Layton Plunkett, Jerry Lowery, Ronnie Sexton, Kraig Sexton, Mike Moore, Terry Davenport, Bill Sexton, Richard Bass, Kyle Burnett, Aron Sloan, Julie Davenport and Hailey Burnett.
