Charla Renee (Sexton) Hertz was born Oct. 23, 1960, in Blackwell to Charles Sexton and Mary (Norris) Sexton. She passed away on Oct. 24, 2020, in Porum at the age of 60.

Charla is survived by her husband of 40 years, Tommy, of the home, her son, Tommy Joe Hertz and wife, Emily, of Porum and her daughter, Danielle Peterson and husband, Caleb, of Blackwell; her mother, Mary Sexton of Porum; her sisters, Elaine Lietch of Blackwell, Vickie Hertz and husband, David, of Broken Bow, Becky Arteaga, and husband, Jose, of Blackwell, and Dorita Sexton of Porum; her grandchildren, Kyson, Haskell, Colter and Emersyn Hertz and Ellie and Camden Peterson; her brother-in-law, Frank Hertz of Tulsa; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

Charla got saved when she was nine years old. She loved Jesus and was always active in church. She was involved with the young ladies’ “Missionettes” program and Vacation Bible School. She volunteered at Blackwell Regional Hospital. She was the “card lady” at Pioneer Free Will Baptist Church. She found joy in lifting others up through her card ministry. Charla’s pastimes included playing card games, crafting, reading, and enjoying pretty things. However, her favorite of all was spending time with her grandbabies.

Charla was preceded in death by her father, Charles Sexton; her in-laws, William and Carmenia Hertz; her brother-in-law, Randy Lietch; and special friends Millard and Mary Kelley.

Viewing was held at Mallory Chapel in Porum from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26; from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27; and from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Pioneer Free Will Baptist Church with Brian Snow officiating. Interment followed at Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.

Pallbearers were Charley Arteaga, James Hertz, Tyler Olson, Jake Merryhew, Kevin Garman, Caleb Peterson and Brian Arteaga.

Honorary pallbearers were Roger Kelley, Dennis Kelley, Jackie Ross, Jr., Paul Barnett and Dan Hughey.
