Carlena Sappington

Carlena Mae Sappington, age 96, died on Oct. 9, 2016, in Hot Springs Village, Ark.
Carlena was born in Oklahoma City to George W. and Hazel Blaylock Brizendine on May 4, 1920.
She grew up in the Tamaha community and attended school in Stigler where she was a member of the chorus and basketball team. She was married to Charlie L. Sappington for 55 years.
Carlena worked seven days a week, however she never drew a paycheck.
She was a loving wife and mother and gave unselfishly to her family. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning the vegetables she raised, quilting, and word search puzzles.
She was a devoted Christian, teaching Sunday school and Bible classes, and always ready to carry a dish to someone in need.
Carlena is preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband; one daughter, Lavada Jo Green; two son-in-laws, Sheldon Green and Jerry Taylor; one brother, Royce Brizendine; sisters, Charlene Ferguson, Wanda Martin and Zelda Cook.
She is survived by one sister, Laverne Presley of Citrus Heights, Calif.; one son, Wayne Sappington and wife Glenda; and one daughter, Jean Taylor of Jessieville, Ark.; four grandsons, Douglas Green of Scott, La., Roger Sappington of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jerry Bennett and wife Michelle of Broken Arrow, John Mark Taylor and wife Carey of Jessieville, Ark.; three granddaughters, Kim Wood and husband Elroy of Claremore, Dawn Castleberry and husband Jerry of Jessieville, Ark., Paige Minton and husband Jimmy of Fannie, Ark.; 16 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Douglas Green, Wayne Sappington, Jerry Wayne Bennett, Roger Sappington, Joshua Castleberry and Jacob Castleberry.
Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandsons.
Services were held Oct. 12 at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Burial followed at Antioch Cemetery. Please make all donations to Antioch Cemetery.
