Buddy Lassiter

Buddy Lassiter, a resident of Checotah, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020 in Henryetta, at the age of 70. Buddy was born on Sept. 8, 1949 in Haileyville, Ala. to Hack and Bee (Pike) Lassiter. 

Buddy grew up in Stigler where he worked on the family dairy farm. He attended Stigler Schools and graduated in 1967. He graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College and Oklahoma State University. He was a ranch foreman at Fairfield Farms from 1973 to 1989.  

Buddy was recognized as one of 10 Outstanding Jaycee Presidents in the State of Oklahoma.  Buddy also coached girls softball at Connors College and was the assistant rodeo coach there as well. He worked as the head rodeo coach at Bacone College. He was recognized as Coach of the Year. Buddy also participated in many sports, but loved rodeo the best.

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. and Lula Bee Lassiter and one brother, Bruce Lassiter.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Delores, of the home; his sons, Shawn Lassiter and Candy, of Stigler, Scott Lassiter and wife, Treasa, of Stigler and David Thomas of Texas; his daughters; Sheena Christenberry and husband, Mark, of Stigler and Linda Thomas of Tahlequah; his sisters, Sue Humphrey, and husband, Rock, of Stigler and  Kaye Ettner of McAlester; his brothers, Mike Lassiter and wife, Le’Ann, of Stigler and Gary Lassiter and wife, Marilyn, of Fairfield, Texas; his grandchildren, Madilyn, Kyle, Parker, Kace, Presley, Paxton, Skyler and Bubba; his great-grandchildren, Kinzly, Ella, Myles and Wrenley; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Everett and Hilda Prevett of Henryetta; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Cathy Prevett of Glennpool and a host of nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

Viewing was held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 17 at Mallory Chapel in Stigler, with family visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m..

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 at Stigler Frist Assembly of God Church with Jerry McPeak and Butch Booth officiating.  Interment followed at Stigler City Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.
