Boyd departed this world and saw his Lord and Savior face to face on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, and passed from this life to his eternal reward at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Salina with his family present. He was 92 years old.

Boyd Clyde Pendergrass was born in Stigler on Jan. 17, 1927, to Truitt Terrill Pendergrass and Flossie Elritta (Beatty) Pendergrass. He had three brothers, Bruce Harvey Pendergrass, Truitt Terrill Pendergrass, Jr. and William Nelson Pendergrass. On Sept. 2, 1954, he married the love of his life, Lula Maude Shelton. They celebrated 61 happy anniversaries before Lu’s death in 2016.

They had three children, Teresa Anne Morgan, Tammy Maureen Potter and Stanley Boyd Pendergrass. Boyd served two tours of duty in the Navy during and immediately following WWII. He and Lu lived in Tulsa from 1956 to 1975, then moved to Ponca City, where they lived for over 35 years before moving closer to family in Salina. Boyd was a master craftsman finish carpenter. No one could build more beautiful cabinetry or furniture pieces than he could. He lived his life as a Godly example before his family, who he loved dearly. He was a quiet, hard-working man that never “tooted his own horn.” He and Lu attended First Baptist Church in Ponca City and were active members of their Sunday school class. He loved little children and for many years taught a Sunday school class for ornery little eight- and nine-year-old boys. He was an avid reader and loved to go antiquing with Lu after retiring at the age of 80 years old. Every Christmas, he and Lu worked together and made the most delicious divinity and pecan praline candies to share with family and friends. He was a devoted fan of OU football and the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lula; his sweet daughter, Tammy; his father and mother and two brothers, Harvey and Truitt Jr.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Morgan and husband, Don, of Salina and son, Stanley Pendergrass and wife, Jennifer, of Hot Springs, Ark.; four grandchildren, Christopher Morgan and wife, Tamarrah, of Salina, Sandy Lu Potter White and husband, Donert, of Dallas, Texas, Paige Nicole Baxter and husband, Michael, of Hot Springs, Ark. and Maddie Lu Pendergrass of Hot Springs, Ark.; four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Boyd Morgan and Kristen Dawn Morgan of Salina and Sophia Nichole Baxter and Emmett Wyatt Baxter of Hot Springs, Ark.; brother and sister-in-law, Nelson and Ivy Pendergrass of Kansas, Okla.; niece and husband, Janet and Rick Ferguson of Kansas, Okla. and nephews, Terry Pendergrass and Buddy Pendergrass of Kansas, Okla. In addition to his Oklahoma family, he was loved by Lula’s Virginia family, where he has many nieces and nephews that he enjoyed being with. He always had time to sit for a conversation or help with a carpentry project on their Virginia visits. His family will forever celebrate the life of this most unselfish and humble man and cherish and recall each poignant moment and all the laughter and fun family times we shared with our beloved Daddy and Grandpa-Poppy.

The Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday Aug. 28, 2019, at the Stephens-Key Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Don Morgan and Christopher Morgan officiating, and burial to follow at Ross-Mayes Cemetery in Salina. The family held a meet and greet with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday Aug. 27, 2019, at Stephens-Key Funeral Home.

Casket bearers will be Stan Pendergrass, Don Morgan, Christopher Morgan, Nathaniel Morgan, Donert White and Neal Lawrence, with honorary casket bearers to be Nelson Pendergrass, Terry Pendergrass and Buddy Pendergrass.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to Stephens-Key Funeral & Cremation Care of Pryor.
