Betty June Gibson-Rosenburgh

 

Betty June Gibson-Rosenburgh, known as “BJ” to friends and family, passed away in Stigler, Oklahoma on August 28, 2021, at the age of 96. She was born in Porum on November 25, 1925 to George Gibson and Nola Aliece Gibson (nee Virdin). Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Durwood E. “Rosey” Rosenburgh; long-time companion Roland Williams; her brothers Pete and Laurence; and her sisters Ruth Colingham, Rachelle Nicholson and Carolyn Burks-Breedlove. After graduating from Porum High School in 1943, Betty went to Washington DC where she worked in the Pentagon at the Office of the Surgeon General. While there, she met and married her husband, Durwood, who was in the navy where he served for 23 years. They traveled with their growing family for years until his retirement as a Master Chief Petty Officer in 1967, then settled in Issaquah, Washington. Betty worked for and retired from King County Department of Assessments where she was a Deputy Tax Assessor. Her husband passed away in 1991 and she returned to Porum in 1994, where she later met Roland Williams. In Porum, she stayed busy with volunteer work for senior citizen activities and also served eight years on the city council, a portion of them as Mayor of Porum. Betty is survived by one sister, Billie Shinpoch of Eldorado, Arkansas. Her five children (two of whom were adopted) are Carol Lynn Hazlett and husband, Bill, of Auburn, Washington; James Earle Rosenburgh and wife, Ruth, of Sequim, Washington; Robert Laurence Rosenburgh and wife, Cammie, of Stigler; Richard Michael Rosenburgh and companion, Dianne, of Denver, Colorado; and Pamela Lynn Giza of Auburn, Washington. She also leaves numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Porum with Rev. Daniel Henson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
