Betsy Stephenson, 81, of Stigler, passed away on June 8, 2021, at Covington Court Rehab in Fort Smith, Ark. She was born Nov, 5, 1939, in Porum, Okla. to Charles and Alta (Warren) Grenfell.

Betsy loved to cook and bake and her favorite things to bake were sugar cookies, peanut butter cookies, cinnamon rolls, tamales, cabbage rolls and spaghetti. She baked bread, cookies, cakes, etc, for over 3,000 children at high school in Tucson, Ariz. She moved back to Oklahoma to be by her mom and dad and worked at Allen Cannery and later as a home health aide. She went to work for KI BOIS Head Start. She earned her high school diploma and several certificates on baking.

She met the love of her life, Skip Stephenson, and they were married on Aug. 21, 1955, in Gonzales, Calif. They moved to Stigler in 1980 and raised their family. She was a member of the Catholic Church.

She loved her children, grandchildren and family; also loved feeding her adopted cats that belong to the neighbors, David and Jimbo. She was a New York Yankee fan and OU fan.

Betsy is survived by her three sons, David Stephenson of Stigler, Tom Stephenson of Stigler and Tim Stephenson and Judy Rozzell of Sulphur, Okla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debora and Artie Johnson of Tamaha and Diane and David Keenan of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Melissa and Bronco Spicer, Taylor Stephenson, Isela Crabtree, Jim Sensibaugh, Marlena and Chad Crase; great-grandchildren, Hailey Hubbard, Seth Crabtree, Addison and Katlynn Spicer, Jamie Rozzell, Cord, Cole and Cale Crase and Amaurie Peters; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Alta Grenfell; her beloved husband of 63 years, Skip Stephenson; grandson, Tommy “Bubba” Stephenson; her brothers; numerous other relatives.

Funeral service was at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with Father Valentine officiating. Eulogist was the Rev. Laveda Idleman. Pallbearers included David Keenan, Taylor Stephenson, Artie Johnson, Bronc Spicer, Brian Stephenson and Cord Crase. Honorary Pallbearers included grandchildren, Hailey, Isela, Seth, Missy Bronc, Addison, Katlynn, Marlena, Chad, Cord, Cale, Cole, Jerrod and Melissa MacKenzie, Kylie, Gabryle, Jamie and Amaurie, Taylor.

Burial followed in the Whitefield Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
