Bernice Simeroth

Bernice (Weaver) Simeroth, a lifetime resident of Porum, passed away at 10:08 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018, at the age of 75.
She was born in Porum on Aug. 4, 1942, to Felix Weaver and Cleo (Didway) Weaver. She grew up in Porum and graduated from Porum High School in May 1960.
Bernice attended Connors State College in the fall of 1960 through the spring of 1962, majoring in business education. She continued her education, receiving both her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree at Northeastern State University and Oklahoma State University. Her teaching career began in the fall of 1964, where she taught at Bluejacket for one year. She then returned to Porum and taught at Stigler High School for seven years. She was then hired at Connors State College, Warner. She remained teaching at Connors until her retirement, Dec. 10, 1997, after completing 32.5 total years teaching.
Bernice would tell you that she lived a wonderful life and was fortunate enough to receive many honors and make many friends along the way.
She was a very avid sports fan, especially of basketball. She was chairperson of the All-School Porum Alumni Reunion from 1989-1991. She held many offices in the field of higher education while teaching at Connors State College.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Felix Weaver, Jr. and Cleo (Didway) Weaver, both sets of grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by one sister, Barbara (Weaver) Henley; three nephews, Steve Spradlin and wife, Alesia, Clay Spradlin and wife, Gina, Mark Henley and Cheryl; four great-nephews, Chris Jones and wife, Jeri, Mark Henley, Justin Spradlin and wife, Amber, Tyler Spradlin and wife, Jesse; two great-nieces, Morgan Spradlin and Destiny Spradlin; three aunts, Jimmye (Weaver) Simpson, Clara (Weaver) Bower and Marjorie (Weaver) Patton; one uncle, Warren Weaver; and many cousins.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 1 at First Baptist Church in Porum with Jim Whitman officiating. Burial followed at Fields Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roger Kinsey, Ivan Kennedy, Mark Breedlove, Norman Powell, Jim Purdom, Ronnie Spradlin, Raymond Simeroth and Greg Lindsey.
Viewing was Monday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mallory Chapel in Porum.
